From Green Velo to local loops
You don’t have to go further. You can stay in or around the city!
A fragment of the longest bicycle route in Poland running through Chelm. You will enter from the north, leave to the south.... Or stay for longer.
Green Velo is an 1,885-kilometer-long marked bicycle route that runs through several provinces: Warmian-Masurian, Podlasie, Lublin, Podkarpacie and Świętokrzyskie. A large part of it consists of sections leading through forest areas.
Chelm lies on the Green Velo route. Many of the city’s facilities and attractions are certified as Bicycle Friendly Places (MPR), which means that the city offers infrastructure and services tailored to the needs of cyclists: racks, pumps, accommodation with a lockable room for bicycles and tourist information. Such facilities can be found in: Chelm Water Park, Hotel Duet, Lviv Hotel and Restaurant, Hotel Kamena, Hotel Kozak, School Youth Hostel.
The Chelm section is 6 km of gentle, well-marked route, which you will cover in about 20-45 minutes. In the city area the trail runs along Ceramiczna, Szpitalna, Lubelska, al. Armii Krajowej, al. I Armii Wojska Polskiego and Wojsławicka streets.
In the Chelm region, the trail leads through Wlodawa, Sobibor, Wola Uhruska, Ruda-Huta, Uher, Siennica Różana and Krasnystaw, but this is an expedition designed for the most demanding cyclists
You don’t have to go further. You can stay in or around the city!
Chelm doesn’t have to be just a stop on a big Green Velo trip. It can become the main destination of that trip…. Think of Chelm as a base for four local bike routes that allow you to get to know the area up close.
You can choose the Southern Panoramas of Chelm, a scenic loop leading through the Chelm Hills. Further afield you may also be interested in the Sobowickie Charms, a route leading through reserves and peat bogs. The Forest Backwoods, a trail through the Chelm Landscape Park, will keep you in the green climate, and in the city itself the Boulevard on the Uherka River (3.5 km) – a short, relaxing stretch along the river – awaits you.
Parking spaces are available at MOR points. You can leave your car and change to a bicycle.
In the center of Chelm there are restaurants and cafes in Luczkowski Square and Lubelska Street. There are no out-of-town food outlets along the route, so it’s a good idea to bring water and a snack.
