Bicycle Capital of Poland

The City of Chelm has joined the nationwide “Bicycle Capital of Poland” project, organized by the City of Bydgoszcz. This is a unique initiative promoting physical activity, healthy lifestyles and daily use of the bicycle as a means of transportation and a form of recreation.

The competition has for several years attracted great interest from residents across the country. The project involves cities, municipalities, institutions, schools, bicycle groups and thousands of individual users, who together “spin kilometers” for their localities.

What is the competition all about?

Participants download the free “Active Cities” application, then select their city and group, and each kilometer driven is recorded in the system. Collected kilometers add up in classifications: individual, group and city, creating an overall score for the competition.

The training phase is currently underway and will last until May 21. This is the time to prepare for the main challenge and “crank out” the first kilometers for Chelm. Meanwhile, on June 1, the main competition for the title of Bicycle Capital of Poland will begin, which will last until June 30.

Chelm is actively involved in the project, encouraging residents to join in the fun and sports competition. The initiative involves local bicycle groups, associations, institutions and Chelm schools, which are joining the campaign in increasing numbers every day.

The project is not only a competition, but first and foremost an integration of residents, promotion of outdoor activities and an opportunity to spend time together. Every kilometer traveled matters and contributes to building Chelm’s position in the national ranking.

It is worth noting that it is not only residents of Chelm who can join the action – all those willing to spin kilometers for the city can participate, regardless of where they live. People from all over Poland and even from different parts of the world can join the project, supporting Chelm in the competition.

Awards for the most active

The City of Chelm plans to reward the most active cyclists who will contribute most to the city’s score in the competition.

To participate in the fun, all you need to do is:

• download the “Active Cities” application,
• register an account,
• select City of Chelm,
• Join a selected group or spin kilometers individually.

We encourage all residents – regardless of age and level – to actively participate and represent Chelm together in the fight for the best possible result.
